What did Elon Musk actually build?
Zip2 (online maps for newspapers, 1995), X.com, which became PayPal (1999), SpaceX (2002), Tesla (he led its first funding round in 2004 and later became CEO), Neuralink and The Boring Company (2016), and xAI (2023, now SpaceXAI). SpaceX alone went from zero to the company that launches most of the world's rockets and runs Starlink.
Is Elon Musk really giving every kid a share of SpaceX?
He says so. On October 19, 2026, Musk posted that next year he will give one of his own SpaceX shares to every kid in America, calling it the first of many. That is about 73 million kids and roughly $10.5 billion of stock. Eligibility and how the shares will be delivered have not been announced, so be wary of anyone asking you to sign up or pay to claim one.
Who is Starman?
Starman is the mannequin in a SpaceX spacesuit sitting behind the wheel of Elon Musk's own cherry-red 2008 Tesla Roadster, which SpaceX launched into space on the first Falcon Heavy flight in February 2018. The car and its driver are still circling the Sun today, and Tesla gave Starman a nod when it unveiled the jumping next-gen Roadster in October 2026.
How high do Starlink satellites orbit?
Starlink satellites orbit about 342 miles (550 km) above Earth — SpaceX is actually lowering thousands of them to roughly 298 miles (480 km) in 2026 for safety.
How many Starlink satellites are in orbit?
There are over 11,000 Starlink satellites in orbit as of August 2026. In January 2026 the FCC approved 7,500 more second-generation satellites, bringing the approved Gen2 total to 15,000, and SpaceX has filed plans for thousands more.
Can you ride The Boring Company tunnel in Las Vegas?
Yes. The Vegas Loop has carried over 4 million passengers in Teslas through tunnels under Las Vegas, with stations at the Convention Center, Encore, Resorts World, Westgate, and now the airport. Convention center rides are free, Strip rides run about $4.25, and the airport run is about $14.
What is Liner Truck 3?
The Boring Company's Liner Truck 3 — which hauls tunnel wall segments underground — runs on Tesla Model 3 battery packs and drive units, not custom industrial parts.
Is Elon Musk building a Hyperloop?
Sort of. In September 2026 Musk announced The Boring Company is working on a "simple, precursor" Hyperloop tunnel between Austin and San Antonio at 200+ mph, aiming to cut a drive of up to 2.5 hours to under 30 minutes. The original Hyperloop idea dates back to his 2013 Hyperloop Alpha white paper.
Is Optimus really going to Mars?
Eventually, but not this year. Musk originally talked about sending Optimus to Mars on Starship in late 2026. In February 2026 SpaceX put the Moon first and pushed Mars back roughly five to seven years. The plan is still to send robots ahead of people to start building.
What is Marslink?
SpaceX has a planned Mars version of Starlink called "Marslink," designed to give a future colony the same kind of connectivity Starlink gives Earth.
When did the first Starlink V3 satellites launch?
September 28, 2026, on Starship Flight 14, the first Starship to ever reach orbit. It deployed 26 V3 Starlink satellites, each adding about 1 Tbps of capacity, for roughly 26 Tbps from one launch.
How many tries did it take Starship to reach orbit?
Fourteen. Starship first flew in April 2023, and its first 13 test flights were all suborbital. Flight 14 on September 28, 2026 finally made it to orbit, and it delivered 26 working Starlink satellites on the same trip.
What is Terafab?
Terafab is a joint venture between Tesla, SpaceX, and xAI to build a chip fab in Texas over 100 million square feet — big enough to be the largest building in the world, and mainly driven by chip demand from Optimus and Cybercab.
What is Starmind?
Starmind is SpaceX's plan for an AI satellite megaconstellation — up to a million satellites in orbit, each running AI inference directly in space and powered by solar instead of the terrestrial grid.
Is xAI part of SpaceX?
Yes. SpaceX bought xAI in February 2026, and in July 2026 xAI was renamed SpaceXAI. It still owns X (formerly Twitter), so SpaceX, Grok, and X are all under one corporate roof.
Is Starshield real?
Yes — Starshield is SpaceX's military and national-security variant of Starlink, publicly unveiled in 2022. It's the backbone of a $2.29 billion Space Force communications contract and the National Reconnaissance Office's spy satellite constellation.
Why does Elon Musk want to merge brains with computers?
Musk has said humans are too slow at getting information into and out of computers — "if the AI can communicate at terabits per second, and you're communicating at bits per second, it's like talking to a tree." Neuralink is his proposed fix.

What is a Starlink train?
A "Starlink train" is a freshly launched batch of Starlink satellites flying in a line. It's easiest to see in the first few days after a launch, an hour or two after sunset or before sunrise, before the satellites spread out.
When did SpaceX first land a rocket booster?
SpaceX first landed an orbital-class Falcon 9 booster on December 21, 2015 at Cape Canaveral. Seven years earlier, the company was down to its last attempt to reach orbit at all.
Is SpaceX a public company?
Yes. SpaceX went public on June 12, 2026, listing on Nasdaq as SPCX at $135 a share. At a $1.77 trillion valuation it was the largest IPO ever, and since SpaceX owns xAI, SPCX includes xAI too. In October 2026 it reported its first quarterly profit as a public company: $4.4 billion on $14.6 billion in revenue.
Are Tesla and SpaceX merging?
Maybe. On October 20, 2026, Musk said both companies had formed special committees of independent directors to look at a merger, and that he thinks it would be a good idea. Nothing has been agreed yet, and a Tesla deal would need a yes from 50% of all Tesla shares.
Is Tesla's Cybercab carrying passengers?
Yes. In October 2026 Tesla started adding Cybercabs, its robotaxi with no steering wheel or pedals, to its driverless fleet in Austin, Texas. Tesla says Dallas is next, with more cities before the end of 2026.
